Historical Photographs of Taylor County, WV

In about 1980 I began collecting old photographs of my hometown of Grafton, WV. Over the years I have collected from various sources and many hours have been burned restoring these images to the best of my abilities using Photoshop. Some are very high quality and some are just low quality internet size images, but all document the history and lifestyle of the town and surrounding area I grew up in and love. Enjoy!

In the 1880 Census for Taylor County, West Virginia, Edward is 62 and a boot and shoe maker. His birth place is listed as Virginia. His father's birthplace is Frankfort, Germany and his mother's birthplace is Virginia. Jemima is 53 and keeping house. She is listed as being born in Virginia, as were both her parents. Alvena is 22, Sallie is 21, Flora is 19. There are two boarders living at the home, Albert Graham 27 and Thomas W. Davis 27. Just below Edward's household on the census is Henry C. Colerider, his son. Henry is the head of a household and 25 years old. He is a shoe maker. His wife, Alma, 22, is keeping house. Albert Kelly, 18, is an apprentice and works in the shoe shop.
