  1. Grafton, WV

Historical Photographs of Taylor County, WV

In about 1980 I began collecting old photographs of my hometown of Grafton, WV. Over the years I have collected from various sources and many hours have been burned restoring these images to the best of my abilities using Photoshop. Some are very high quality and some are just low quality internet size images, but all document the history and lifestyle of the town and surrounding area I grew up in and love. Enjoy!

  • Grafton was among the 20 WV communities to inaugurate air mail service in 1939. All American Aviation of Pittsburgh flew a pick-up route that was authorized by congress. The first official flight was June 25, 1939, and Grafton offered and official first day cover designed for stamp collectors. Air mail service ended in 1949. The pick-up and drop-off point was first Bluemont Cemetery, but the location was later changed.
